Should we recognize teaching as a profession?
Should we recognize teaching as a profession? This is a big topic when it comes to teachers. Should they be considered a profession or is teaching just another job? The definition of profession is requiring special knowledge and special education. I personally think that teaching is a profession. Reasons I think that teacher should be considered a profession is because teachers help make and develop leaders and leadership as well as being an influence on students. Teachers also go to school and learn how to deal and handle different students and help them become successful. In most cases every student needs different levels of help on becoming successful and that takes a lot of responsibly and education. Teachers are always learning. And on top of that teachers do not get paid enough for what they do. Along with our profession we are demanded with high standards and pushed with higher standards everyday. We as teachers need to speak out about our profession because of everything we do and the standards we have to meet. I believe that the amount of time teachers interact with students should automatically make it a profession because it takes a great line of skills and personality to be a great teacher. We are teaching the future, not very many other professions can say that.
I also believe that teaching should be taken more seriously. We need to constantly have licences renewed and we have to have so many certifications that on the surface, it sounds like we are getting a job to be a doctor. If we have to be so certified and have to also be so many different things, why are teachers belittled all the time? We certainly do not see that in other countries. Would this be a problem with society and education? Why would this be an issue if schooling before college is required and virtually costless?
ReplyDeleteI really like this topic you have chosen. I feel like it is very relevant since we are all in the teaching profession. I think teaching in my eyes is a profession. As well as I do agree with your statements. I think it takes a special person to be a teacher.
ReplyDeleteThis I feel is something that does not get talked about near as much as it should. Like you said we are teaching future generations and that is a lot of pressure to hold on our shoulders. I think that people need to understand how hard it actually is to be a teacher and then maybe they will understand what it actually takes. Teachers do not get paid nearly enough for what they do. People need to realize that it takes a lot of hard work to become a teacher and that teachers deserve more than what they are getting.
